William Kent Krueger's Visit & Video

The Northwest Regional Library celebrated its 40th anniversary by inviting the award winning author William Kent Krueger to its libraries. Kruger is the author of the Cork O’Connor mystery series which is set in northeastern Minnesota.  Kruger visited the libraries in Thief River Falls, Warren, Hallock, and Roseau.  During his discussions he spoke about his life as a writer and his reasons for writing. He told audiences that, as a teenager, he wanted to be Ernest Hemingway. Krueger used a couple of Hemingway’s philosophies on lifestyle like, not wearing underwear and writing for two hours each day. He decided that he liked his underwear; but for the past 30 years, has gotten up each morning at 5:30, walks to his favorite restaurant in St Paul and writes for two hours. From that restaurant booth, he has written in long hand such books as, “Iron Lake,” “Mercy Falls,” and his newest best seller, “Red Knife”. He read the first chapter from “Red Knife” which portrays the harsh realty of school shootings.

He spoke to captive audiences throughout the Northwest Regional Library System. The Northwest Regional Library received assistance to allow for this opportunity through help from the Hallock, Warren, Thief River Falls, and Roseau Friends of the Libraries, and a grant through the Minnesota Book Awards Author Funding Program.  A great time was had by all.

A video of Kent talking about one of his reasons for writing Iron Lake will be added as soon as it uploads correctly :)
